I’m so excited that my Whales Under the Surface design placed in the top ten on Spoonflower’s Whales Contest! So many amazing designers participate in Spoonflower’s contests, it’s always a thrill to place near the top! This limited palette challenge was much more monochromatic than my usual high contrast designs. I found it really challenging, but that’s what I love about entering the contests; they push me out of my comfort zone and I end up learning so much. While I hated this palette at first, I found that the more I worked with it, the more I liked it. I’ve developed quite a few coordinating patterns to go with this design because I just didn’t want to stop!
This pattern is especially close to my heart because I love the ocean and all the creatures in it. My favorite pastime on earth is snorkeling, I could spend hours peering at the beautiful ocean creatures both big and small. The ocean is another universe, just under the surface.
